John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)

When I heard John Wick was getting a sequel, I'll admit that I wasn't too excited to see it, but this sequel is way better than the first one. In this follow up, John Wick is retired from the assassins world but he is forced out of retirement by Italian Crime Lord, Santino D'Antonio because John swore to a "marker" which he had no other choice but to uphold. Winston, the owner of the Continental Hotel in New York, reminds John that he can't violate the rules, so John accepts the task of killing D'Antonio's sister, Gianna. She ends up taking her life but her bodyguard Cassian (Common) goes after John. Their fight leads them to the Continental Hotel in Rome, they end the fight but Cassian swears to avenge Gianna's death. D'Antonio opens a $7 million contract on John which leads to numerous attempts on his life including Cassian.

They get into a fight at the subway, John stabs Cassian but spares his life. The desperate John seeks help from the underground Crime Lord, The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and makes it clear to him that he wants to kill D'Antonio. The Bowery King's men lead John to D'Antonio's location and John kills D'Antonio at the Continental. John is therefore declared excommunicado and loses all access to the underworld. He flees on foot with his dog. John Wick is an amazing come back for Keanu Reeves who I think was his best in The Matrix, the action scenes are amazing and the movie has a really good flow.

Keanu Reeves did an amazing job and so did the supporting actors. I'm happy he finally found another iconic character which he'll play again in the next sequel. My excitement level rose, especially with the action scenes which had a lot of body count. John Wick can literally use anything to kill, even a pen, which he stuck in the head of one of the assassins trying to kill him. The story line is character based because we see the struggles of a former assassin who is trying to leave that world and have a normal life. There's enough dry humor and extreme violence to keep you on the edge of your seat. Its not also necessary to see the first one to understand this sequel.
