Alter Ego is Omotola Jalade Ekeinde's return to the big screen and she plays a successful lawyer who defends victims of sexual abuse and makes sure their molesters end up in jail. The other side of Ada is a nymphomaniac. She constantly struggles with these two sides because she was abused by a teacher at the age of 14. When she meets Mr Timothy, (Wale Ojo) a well known society man who is very involved in helping the poor, she thinks he's an angel sent from heaven only to discover that he's not who she thought he was.
I've been a huge fan of Omotola since I was a child and I was really excited for her return to the big screen. She delivered on her role and so did Wale Ojo who has quickly become one of my favorite Nollywood actors. The movie had a good beginning and a very weak ending which will definitely make you leave the theater a bit pissed. The story line was good at shedding more light on child abuse, rape and how the victims deal with it. I'm not even sure of what to say about the sex scenes, they weren't too raunchy just a bit funny to watch. The supporting cast wasn't strong especially Ada's sister Ngozika, she wasn't a good fit for the role. It felt like she was struggling with her lines. Emem Inwang who plays Aisha and Elvina Ibru who plays one of the judges really stood out from the rest of the supporting cast. They did really well even though they featured in just a few scenes.
There was a scene where Ada had a fight with her sister and was kicked out of the apartment, what didn't make sense was Ada leaving her bag at the apartment. Even though you're being kicked out of an apartment, what stopped you from taking your bag along? She ended up walking home instead of just taking her keys and driving her car. This made absolutely no sense. The last scene involved Ada facing her demons and then proceeding to kneel on the floor to scream for about 2 minutes. Before she's able to leave, her sister and husband walk in and the movie ends with Ada and her brother in law pointing their guns at each other. What were they trying to prove here? It was a crappy way to end a film that had a good story. I was genuinely pissed when I left the theater and a few people I spoke to felt the same way. They all felt the ending was absolutely unnecessary and pointless. Thumbs up to Moses Inwang for creating a movie about a topic that needs to be discussed in our society.
