Review- The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)

Poster via imdb.com
From the trailer and the poster which shows Ryan Reynolds carrying Samuel L. Jackson is a spoof of the poster for The Bodyguard (1992) where Kevin Costner is carrying Whitney Houston, I already knew this movie was going to be a hit so I was a bit surprised to see the the low ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. What were they really expecting? So here's the story, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds), a top bodyguard is hired to protect a hit man who must testify against a dictator at the International Court of Justice in Amsterdam.

They must put their differences aside and work together to make it to the trial on time. This story is pretty much predictable and you already know how it ends 15 minutes in, but it was still fun to watch. The best thing about this film is the chemistry between Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds. Such movies only work when you have a great cast playing the right characters and The Hitman's bodyguard works on that level. The humor between them was fantastic and even though some jokes were flat, I enjoyed the banter nonetheless. The fight and car chase scenes were funny and intense. I loved every scene with Salma Hayek and I wish we got more. The Hitman's Bodyguard is funny but not really that laugh out loud type of movie and it was really fun to watch. I enjoyed every bit of it and I suggest you go see it if you're yet to.
