Sleepless (2017)

When I saw the trailer for Sleepless, I was like "Oh yes! Jamie Foxx in an action flick!" I was excited to see him, I mean, who isn't? But I wasn't as excited as I was when the movie started after watching. So here's the story. Vincent Downs (Jamie Foxx) is a Las Vegas detective who works with a crooked partner Sean Cass (T.I.), together they steal a large batch of cocaine, which unknowingly to them, belonged to a very dangerous crime family, The Novaks. The drug was initially sold to Rob Novak by the casino owner, Stanley Rubino. Rubino finds out that his drug was stolen by Downs, so he kidnaps Thomas, Downs' son. Jennifer Bryant (Michelle Monaghan) gets a bad vibe from Downs when investigating police issued bullets found at a crime scene and she starts tailing him. Downs gets the drugs to Rubino but keeps half in the toilet until his son is released.

Jennifer goes into the toilet, finds the drugs and takes them away, which means trouble for Downs. He eventually gets his son back and as it turns out, he is also Internal Affairs working undercover. How surprising! Gabrielle Union doesn't really do much except talk on the phone with Vincent, but I was still happy to see her. I only wished she didn't take this role because this movie really wasn't all that. From the beginning of this movie, I already predicted how it would end. It's a typical good cop- bad cop drug story where you can point out what everyone is going to do before the movie ends. Jamie gets stabbed but he's still able to keep fighting all the bad guys from the beginning of the movie till the end. He's walking around like he can barely stand, but as soon as a bad guy gets in his way, he goes full mortal combat on the person.

I found myself thinking of how the title of this movie had any relation to the plot, it had no relevance whatsoever. This movie wasn't bad, but there really wasn't any point making it and even Mr Foxx couldn't save this movie. I'd rather see him with his humor as a major part of a film. The acting was really good but it isn't enough to help the story. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Police Procedurals but this wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would be. They tried to make the movie seem like a real story but failed with so many questionable scenes as the film went on. This is a movie you'll forget you saw as soon as you leave the theater and probably question why you even saw it in the first place. They would have made the characters go into the city instead of shooting almost the entire film in the casino. It has enough violence and a great combination of actors, but the story isn't one for the books.
