I never saw a trailer for The Women, just posters everywhere and I was really interested in seeing it because two actresses I really loved were starring. The premise follows four married friends, Teni (Omoni Oboli), Ene (Kate Henshaw), Rose (Katherine Obiang) and Omoh (Ufuoma McDermott) who all have skeletons in their closet but act all innocent and pretend to each other. Omoh is going through financial problems with her husband and having an affair with her friends husband and she decides to invite all her friends for her birthday dinner and while they're trying to have a good time, different secrets are spilled and the party turns to chaos.
The cast did really well with their roles and I liked the characters although I'm not sure some were the perfect fits for their roles. The story line, which explores the themes of friendships, relationships and marriage was excellent. It's easy for some audience members to relate to at least one of the characters, we see the reality of how some people lie just to impress their friends, how some would rather go to their graves with their secrets rather than sharing it with their partners and how some are ashamed of being in public with their spouses. I'm not sure if it's the fault of the theater, but the visuals made it look like a low budget film. The Women is an enjoyable film but I honestly feel like it could have been better. Even with a few laughs here and there, nothing really stood out.
