Review- Flatliners (2017)

Image via imdb.com
Flatliners is a remake of the 1990 film of the same name about five Medical students obsessed with what lies in the after life. They explore the realm of near death experiences by stopping their hearts for short periods and reviving it back after a few minutes. They start having flashes of walking nightmares from their childhood and reflections of sins they committed. The experiences continue to intensify, and they begin to be physically beaten by their visions as they try and go deeper into the death experience to find a cure.

Flatliners is a less that average film and there was nothing horror about it. It was bland with no character development making it hard for me to feel bad for the characters when their experiment goes wrong. I didn't even care if any or all of them died. I didn't see the original but I'm sure this wasn't a good remake. I'm still trying to understand why there are a lot of remakes and reboots out there because more than half of the time, they usually don't work. It just feels like all they want to do is cash out and bounce. What was the point of making this film? Keifer Sutherland, who was in the original, has a supporting role here but with a different name. I don't see this point of using him again. The movie felt excruciatingly longer than an hour forty minutes and I felt bad for the actors because I knew they deserved better. The script was very flat and I honestly regretted seeing it at the cinema. With a good script, maybe this would have been better. Flatliners failed as a reboot and I strongly suggest you skip it, unless you're watching it from your TV or Laptop screen.
