This Is Us had a good first season and to be honest I wonder what they'll do next season. I feel like they'll eventually run out of things to do or say. I have never been annoyed that a character did not die, but I felt that way after watching the finale "Moonshadow". Everything the writers did this season built up the audience to prepare for Jack's death, but they surprised everyone by doing something totally different. This is Us was an emotional roller coaster and I was let down a bit after that finale, I expected more. This season, Randall found his biological father, found out his mother, Rebecca, knew about his father but refused to tell him, Kevin reunited with his ex wife, Kate got engaged, Randall lost his biological father and quit his job. I cried a few times during this season, especially when it had to do with Randall.

The fact that his adoptive mother knew about his biological father and refused to tell him even after he asked a bunch of times was just sad; and then after he finds his father, he doesn't spend a lot of time with him because he dies from Cancer. It's just a very sad story. Randall's story line could be a show on its own. I was ready to empty my tear ducts during Moonshadow, but it wasn't the case. They ended up telling us how Jack met Rebecca and juxtaposed it with how they separated. Which means we're definitely going to see more of Milo Ventimiglia's Jack Pearson next season. They'll probably kill Milo's character when the audience least expects it which only means more tears. Moonshadow didn't feel like a season finale but I have a few questions after watching; Will Jack and Rebecca get a divorce? Were they together when he died? The episode focused entirely on Jack and Rebecca, showing the other cast mates at the end of the episode.

The "Big Three" also have big decisions to make. What's going to happen to Randall now that he quit his job? Will Kevin remarry his ex wife? Is there really going to be a wedding with Kate and ...? Kate wants to become a singer? I wonder how it'll go. Randall also wants to adopt a child, this is going to be interesting to watch. The only part of the episode that made me sit up was the scene where Jack and Rebecca screamed at each other. It felt so real and really hard to watch. It was very smart of the writers to put Jack and Rebecca's first meeting with their separation in the same episode. It was a good episode, but not good enough for a finale. It was a bit dull. Nevertheless, I'll still follow this family and their issues next season. I'm sure it'll be an emotional ride.
