Shameless: Season 7 Finale

If you've followed Shameless from the beginning, then you know the writers never disappoint. The seventh season finale which aired on Sunday was proof of why we were all so in love with this dysfunctional family. At the beginning of the episode, Ian is on his way back to Chicago after helping Mickey (who I really miss) escape and we finally see Carl at military school as he gets the information about the death of his mother.
At the hospital, a Doctor informs Fiona, Lip and Debbie that they were not able to revive Monica and that she died after a blood vessel in her brain burst. Fiona goes outside to give Frank the news, telling him he could come in to say goodbye but Frank walks away to a bar without saying a word to Fiona. Back at the house, Fiona, Kev, V, Debbie, Liam and Neil go through Monica's personal belongings which included clothes, jewelry, drugs, a copy of Siddhartha by Herman Hesse and a key. Frank shows up late, pukes on the floor and passes out.
Fiona cleans it up and puts a towel under his head. In the morning, they all wake up to the smell of bacon and eggs and find Carl in the kitchen, they are all happy and impressed to see Carl looking so responsible in his uniform. Although I must admit, I miss the old Carl. While at Patsy's, Fiona leaves a message for Bill, Monica's dad that his daughter has died. Ryan (who I still think is sketchy) meets Fiona at Patsy's to discuss the apartment building and Fiona agrees to use his lawyer. She assures him that she's still very interested and they shake hands. Lip meets with his friend from AA/sponsor and tells him he's been having the urge to drink. He asks lip to help him out with the bike he's working on and he'll take him for a stack of pancakes at IHOP. Back at Patsy's, Sierra offers to talk after work but Lip declines her offer. At the house, Frank goes through Monica's things and finds the key everyone thought belonged to an old apartment and he realizes that it's a key to a storage unit. He goes with Debbie, Carl and Liam and they sneak into the storage unit and find out what Monica might be hiding.
They find clothes, food, blankets and other items. Frank finds a box containing seven bags on crystal meth and he's convinced Monica left them for him and the kids. Frank weighs the bags of meth at the house and reveals that they are probably ten thousand dollars each. Fiona goes mad telling him they have to flush it down the toilet. The other siblings don't agree with her saying they all need the money, while Ian suggests that they sleep on it and decide what to do with it in the morning. There's a knock on the door which scares everyone and they all scatter to hide the meth. Fiona opens the door and sees Grandpa Bill who goes after Frank immediately, throwing him down the stairs and punching him blaming him for Monica's death. Fiona tells Bill that they don't have enough money to throw Monica a proper service but Bill insists he'll handle the bills in order for his daughter to have a real burial. Frank rushes upstairs after Bill leaves to look for the meth and Debbie tells him that she hid it.
He looses it and grabs Debbie by the throat and Fiona by the hair. Ian and Lip finally manage to pin Frank against the wall just in time for Debbie to slap him. Frank goes out to the yard and Fiona follows him and makes it very clear to him that his dear Monica was nothing close to a mother because she left them when she was only nine leaving her to take care of the whole family, she tells Frank that Monica never loved them and that she's glad Monica is dead. She didnt love me. She didnt love you. She didnt give a sh*t about anyone but herself. Im glad shes dead! At least now she cant f*ck us over anymore. Later that night, Fiona hides her and Liam's share of the meth under her mattress.
The next morning at the funeral home, Fiona laughs at Monica's lifeless body dressed in her wedding gown, hides the meth in the casket, and punches Monica's body a few times before leaving. The funeral service goes pretty well with everyone in attendance including Sierra and Trevor. All the children give a speech and just when they were all about to leave Frank gets up to speak. He talks about how he met Monica in college and tells his kids that no matter how much they hate her, she's already in them. Back at the Gallagher house, everyone is drinking and dancing while Lip is outside with his cup of coffee. Sierra joins him and he tells her how much he f**ked up his life and that he wants to go back to college. The final scenes show Debbie at her welding class, Lip and Brad his sponsor going into their AA meeting, Ian at a traffic accident, Fiona walking into her new apartment and Carl spray painting Monica's name in an alley with Frank.
The episode was filled with so many elements which make this show amazing. It was well written and they didn't fail to give us those emotional scenes that make us a bit teary eyed. The last two episodes we saw Frank in a very emotional state, which is quite rare and we understand that he truly loved Monica no matter how messed up she was. The scene where Fiona screams at Frank telling him how she had to become an adult at the age of nine to take care of everyone made us understand just how much she had gone through being a parent to her five siblings and Frank. Although emotional, this was one of my favorite scenes. Fiona cleaning up Frank's puke and putting a towel under his head took me right back to the first season where Debbie did the same. Although the season ended without a cliff hanger, "Requiem for A Slut" was a pretty good episode. I also loved the little moment where Ian joins Carl for a run. We got to see how close the siblings were which was a huge part of the last few episodes. Monica and Mickey coming back was also very crucial part of the season and I'll admit that seeing Mickey go was really sad. He was a very exciting character and I loved his relationship with Ian. I'm super excited to see what's next for the Gallaghers.
