Ryan Phillipe as Bob Lee Swagger (Image via washingtonpost.com) |
The episode picked up where episode 9 left off. The Swaggers, Nadine & Isaac are trying to put together a plan to save Mary. Julie harasses the Russian Ambassador to draw attention to the kidnapping of her daughter. Bob Lee impersonates a security guard to be able to get into the Embassy and he successfully gets Mary. The Ambassador, possibly trying to avoid an international incident helps Bob Lee get Mary. They reunite with Julie and instead of just fleeing the country with his family, Bob Lee decides to stay and complete his plan. Krukov put a tracker into the food he gave Mary at the embassy to be able to locate Julie & get Annex B. He sends his men to find Bob Lee and kill him while he went to the motel himself to find Julie & Mary. Bob Lee took out multiple guys at once but Nadine and Isaac still backed him up even when it looked like he really didn't need any help. They both got shot almost immediately. Fortunately Nadine was saved by her vest while Isaac sustained not too fatal gunshot injuries. Back at the motel Krukov kept shooting at Julie and Mary, blasting giant holes in the wall and once Julie called Bob Lee to tell him about the situation, he shifted his focus immediately to saving his girls. Nadine assists him by shooting at Krukov's car to lure him out and Bob Lee took him out a mile away with just one shot. After everything, Nadine still had to take him in because he was still a fugitive. The NSA director, Gregson clears Bob Lee of all the charges but not before asking for the Annex B file which he refuses to give. He tells her to check with the Russian Ambassador if he found anything in the room they kept his daughter. The final scene showed Isaac telling Gregson he was done with all her schemes but she refuses to let him go. "Don't send anyone after me", he says. "I won't have to", she says.

The episode was solid but there were a few questionable scenes. Bob Lee getting Mary out of the embassy was way too easy. How was he able to get past security without any one recognizing him; the man who almost killed the President. Krukov put a tracker in the food? Is that what people do now? I tried hard not to roll my eyes when he said that. Mary didn't want the food at first and when she did, it was probably a few bites of the cookie. So the tracker was in the part she ate? I still don't get that part. The best part of the whole episode for me was when Bob Lee shot at Krukov from a distance. That shot was epic. This season was really good but there's a lot to improve. They dropped so many names at the beginning of the season which I can't even remember; most of them ended up being irrelevant to the story. They also had too many plot holes that ended up being abandoned.
Shooter is an amazing show with a great cast and for some reason I'm genuinely happy that Ryan Phillipe is the main character. He's doing such a great job with Bob Lee I can't imagine anyone else in that role. I hope we get to see more of Isaac next season even though it looked like he didn't make it out alive in the last scene. I like Omar Epps even though his character was quite shady. I hope they would be able to pull of another action packed season this summer.
