This Is Us Mid Season Finale- "Number Three"

I get emotional every single time I watch an episode of NBC's This Is Us. It's a phenomenal show with an amazing cast that always leaves you wanting more after every episode. Season 2 has been such a ride and even though we still don't know how Jack dies, focusing on Kate, Kevin and Randall in the last three episodes have been awesome. The 2 episodes leading to this week's mid-season finale were darker and more emotional than the others. The story lines are getting more complex and real. So far, they've talked about racism and addiction. Kevin's episode was where Justin Hartley really showed his skills and I couldn't get enough of him. That episode alone deserves to get him an Emmy nomination. In last night's episode, Jack & Randall visit Howard University and Randall is excited to be around people like him but is a little embarrassed to introduce his father to his friends. Jack calls him out during the drive home and Randall tells him that he always feels conflicted because he's black and the rest of his family is white. Beth and Randall also had to give back their foster daughter Deja to her mother and this riled up so many emotions because they had become so attached to her. They had plans to go to court and present a case about how Deja's mother isn't ready but when Randall sees the connections between Deja's situation and his own with William, he changes his mind.

Kevin has certainly gone through a lot this season with his drug and alcohol addiction which got him arrested at the end of the episode. When I found out that Randall's daughter was in the car, I thought Kevin was going to have an accident but he was stopped by the police instead. Kevin has hit rock bottom and I hope he'll be able to get through this phase soon. Kate's episode was equally heartbreaking and loosing her baby was a shocker for me. I really did not see it coming. I don't think I was comfortable with the fact that she got over it so quickly. Why not let her deal with it. Having a miscarriage isn't something that people get over so easily and I wish they explored this story line with Kate & Toby. The question of Jack's death is still looming in the air and I hope they clear it up in the finale next year. We know he died in a fire, we just need to know how and when. I'm confident that when that time comes, the writers are not going to leave any stone unturned. This Is Us is one of the best shows I've seen so far  and  I can't wait to see where they take us when they return next year.
