Set in the early 1970's Times Square, New York, the Period Drama tells the story of how the porn industry began and its eventual legalization. The Deuce is filled with so many rich characters and I fell in love with the show from the first episode. The writing is fantastic and so is the cast. My favorite is James Franco playing twin brothers Vincent & Frankie who both work for the Mob. Maggie Gyllenhal plays Eileen/Candy, a sex worker who eventually goes into the porn industry as an actress. She plays this role so well and at the end of the day, you're left praying that she really gets what she's looking for. The pimps are as ruthless as ever and you can see how they hold so much over the girls that they find it so hard to leave. The Deuce explores the themes of violence, drug abuse, misogyny, racism and corruption.

So much went down in the finale and it ended with a shocker. It was really intense and filled with so much drama which makes me really look forward to the second season. Eileen finally gets to direct a film when Harvey is absent and by the end of the episode, they both go for the premiere of "Deep Throat". Eileen is one character that has really grown and I'm really happy she's finally off the streets. Vincent isn't happy with the idea of the parlor and he respectfully tells Rudy to go fuck himself. Watching Franco play two very different characters has been such a joy, he was the best person for this role. It's obvious that the ladies hate what they're doing and they would give anything to stop but they have to keep going in order to make some money and survive. Eileen came close to death but luckily escaped it, but the same didn't go for Ruby. The craziest thing about Ruby's demise was the fact that the she was pushed out of the window by the same guy that beat Eileen. I felt emotional at the end of the episode when I remember how Eileen was calling at Ruby when she was getting into the car with the evil guy, but she didn't hear. Maybe if Eileen came out to talk to her about her new business venture she wouldn't have ended up splattered on the floor.

It's so sad how insensitive the guys can be, even Vince is bothered about how it'll affect the bar and not the fact that a human being was just murdered. C. C (Garry Carr) sees Ruby's body and says "The girl was in a hurry I guess" which got him a punch to the stomach by Officer Alston. Barbara, one of Larry's (Gbenga Akinnagbe) girls gets arrested during a heroine deal gone wrong and her pimp expects her to do the time for him saying "She's loyal like a three legged dog". At the end of the episode, it's obvious that he's a little bothered and we'll have to wait till next season to see if she'll actually give him up. In "My Name is Ruby", most of the characters are struggling with different issues. Larry feels guilty, Bobby is having an affair, Vince is regretting going into business with the mob, Sandra's article doesn't get printed the way she wanted it and her relationship with Officer Alston is on the rocks. I can't wait to see more of these characters in the next season.
