Review- The Snowman (2017)

Poster via imdb.com
The Snowaman is a Crime Thriller based on the book by Norwegian Author Jo Nesb and it follows Detective Harry Hole (Michael Fassbender) and Katrine Bratt (Rebecca Ferguson) as they investigate the disappearance of a lady on the first snow of winter. Hole discovers that a serial killer is on the loose and together with Bratt, they piece together decades old cases and connect them to the new ones to try and figure out who the killer might be. I didn't read the source material but It's a best seller and the trailer looked like it was going to be something that would keep you on the edge of your seat but it ended up being a disaster. It was very dull and filled with a lot of unnecessary scenes that were only included to make it an almost 2 hour film. It felt like a really long episode of a Crime Show and not the ones that make you hyped and excited to find out who the killer is.

There's no character development which makes it hard to feel empathy for the lead character. They were so many unnecessary characters and subplots which left me confused. The characters were not interesting and I felt bad for the some of the cast members like Fassbender, J. K. Simmons and Toby Jones for being involved in this film.  It's a very boring film that does a bad job at building up suspense and when it got to the supposed climax, I didn't feel the excitement that comes with finally finding out who was chopping off heads and making snowmen. The Snowman had a good plot but it did a poor job at executing it and it ended up being all over the place. Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street) was initially attached to Direct and I wonder if he would have been able to make it work. The only good thing about this film was the setting and the way it was shot. Don't bother seeing this even if it's from your laptop or TV screen.
