Snowfall

After seeing the trailer for FX's "Snowfall", I knew this was something I had to see, mostly because It's totally different from any story line on TV right now. A lot of TV shows have similar story lines and making something that stands out is always a plus. In most cases, a Pilot can either make or break the show and how its accepted by the audience. This drama focuses on the 1980's rise of crack cocaine in the United States. It's set in Los Angeles, California and follows different characters whose storylines might intertwine in the near future. The characters include drug dealer Franklin Saint, Mexican Wrestler Gustavo "El Oso" Zapata, CIA operative Teddy McDonald and Lucia Villanueva, the daughter of a Mexican Crime Boss. This John Singleton show takes a look at the racial dynamic that took place in the 80's, the pilot sees the major characters heading in different paths but ultimately something (drugs) will bring them together. Damson Idris stars as Franklin Saint, a young weed dealer who convinces an Isreali drug dealer, Avi, to give him a kilo of cocaine to sell. Franklin knows this is risky, but he does it anyways. CIA operative Teddy McDonald is dragged into a crime scene and ends up doing a body cleanup in a house with over five thousand kilos of cocaine.

I love everything about this show already just from watching the Pilot. The acting is top notch especially from Idris, Peris-Mencheta and Hudson. I especially love Idris' character. He's getting involved in something dangerous but for some reason you feel bad for him because you understand why he's doing it. His father is a homeless man and his mother is struggling to make ends meet. His story line seems to be the most interesting one so far. I feel like each of the three major characters could stand on their own as a show. With ten episodes it might not be enough to explore these three story lines. This show is very brilliant and skillfully made with impeccable performance from the cast. According to the critics, the three story lines barely intersect even at the sixth episode. I really hope this doesn't become a problem for this show which shows so much potential. I'll definitely tune in every Thursday to catch a new episode.
