Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)

So far, Michael Bay's Transformers have always gotten bad reviews but this one has seen the worst yet, with a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 159 reviews and 28/100 on Metacritc based on 46 reviews. So here's the plot, about 1600 years, the first transformer on earth gave a wizard, Merlin,  a Staff to defeat evil. In the present day, the wrong set of transformers are trying to get a hold of it to rebuild their planet. It's left to Cade Yeager (Mark Whalberg), Viviane Wembley (Laura Haddock), Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins), William Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and his TRF members to save earth.

The Transformers series has always received bad reviews from the critics but that doesn't stop them from making more. The last Transformers wasn't amazing or fantastic but it was way better than this one. I tried my best to really like this movie because of my love for Mark Wahlberg but this doesn't cut it at all. One thing they got wrong and I couldn't look past was the fact that it had a plot that was all over the place. The movie ended up not being about the transformers but all about Viviane being the only one that can wield the Merlin Staff and how Cade is the chosen one. The most popular Transformer, Optimism Prime got probably only 15 minutes of screen time. I was in no way excited or pumped about this film and the fact that it was 2 hours and 29 minutes made everything worse. There are a few movies you watch and you don't even know when 2 hours goes by but with this, I kept looking at my watch waiting for it to end.

Even with how long this film is, there is lack of character development which makes you really not care about the characters and if they died or not. The whole story about Aurthur, Merlin, the staff, Viviane, Izabella and her blue friend didn't flow in any way. The film had some really good CGI but the constant slow motion made the whole thing annoying to watch. For some reason I felt Mark Wahlberg was not interested to make this film which is probably why he won't be returning along with Michael Bay for another Transformers film. The next film will be about Bumblebee (The yellow Autobot) who doesn't even seem interesting. Like every other Transformer film, there's  a lot of explosions and action from the beginning till the end. The Last Knight isn't awesome but its okay. Mark Whalberg, Anthony Hopkins and Laura Haddock did justice to their characters and what they were given but the other supporting characters like Izabella (Isabela Moner) and Jimmy (Jerrod Carmichael) just didn't click for me. It felt like they really didn't need to be in the film. Go see Transformers with an open mind. Don't expect a mind blowing story line just a lot of explosions.
