'31st October' Movie Review (7/10)

I watched the movie over the first weekend of release. This is the first Bollywood movie that attempts to portray the events following the assassination of Prime Minster Indira Gandhi on 31st October 1984. Being a Sikh myself, I was interested in the movie and liked the trailer and hence, decided to watch it.

The movie is about the struggle of a Sikh family from Delhi to move to a safer place during the anti-Sikh riots. The movie is based on true events and has been adapted from the diary of events kept by a family that experienced those events in real life.

The casting of the movie is good and the movie progresses at a fast pace. The soundtrack grows on you and uses popular singers like Sonu Nigam, Asha Bhosle and Babbu Maan. The movie has been directed by National Award Winner Shivaji Lotan Patil.

This is an honest attempt to portray the experience of one family during the anti-Sikh riots and fulfils the brief. The production value and acting could've been a bit better and the depth of emotions could've been better exploited.

Overall, it is a good one time watch. Generous 7/10 for this honest effort.
